Rams welcome rookies at open training session

Posted on 12th December 16

warm-upAn impressive crop of 41 new faces were put through their paces at an open training session last Sunday as the Rams began their preparations for the new season and a fresh assault on the play-offs.

briefingThe prospective rookies began arriving at South Leeds Stadium from 10am and, after registration and a pre-training briefing in the stadium stand, took to the astroturf pitch at the back of the complex to learn the basics of the sport.

Under the guidance of Rams coaches and players, the newcomers began with movement and agility drills as well as the 40-yard dash.

They then went through positional drills – slants for receivers and quarterbacks, hand-offs for running backs, head-to-head lineman drills and back-pedals for defensive backs – as Rams personnel assessed their qualities.

Head coach David Pawson said: “Following on from a very successful end-of-year event the previous evening, it was good to get the new season underway with an open session for new potential players to the Rams.
It was extremely good to see so many turn up at our home stadium for the session, and the fact no one looked out of place.

“We are hopeful most will be back at the next session on January 8 when we take the next step before we bring in the veteran players and build upon last season – 2017 is looking promising, places are still up for grabs and we look forward to welcoming even more new players when we return from the Christmas break”

Full details of January’s two remaining open sessions will appear here and on our Facebook and Twitter feeds when available.
