Meet the Team – Interim Head Coach, Dom Ioanna
In this “Meet the Team” series we will get to know some of the Yorkshire Rams playing and coaching staff, this week it’s Interim Head Coach, Dom Ioanna.
Name: Dom Ioanna
Position: Interim Head Coach
NFL team: Atlanta Falcons
Experience: 1 year
What is your greatest achievement with the Rams?
Being asked to take on the Interim Head Coach role. After working closely with last year’s HC Orlando and OC Rick, I know that this is a role of responsibility and is not one to be taken lightly for a team in this division, so to be asked to take on the role is a great honour and I can’t wait to get started.
Any advice for this year’s rookies?
Turn up, be professional, be safe, have fun.
How about advice for any youngsters aspiring to play senior football?
This is a great game to be involved in. It teaches you so many different aspects like teamwork, how to strategise and the values of good old fashioned hard work. The best way to get started is to listen to your coaches, they are here to make sure you employ the correct techniques to keep you and everyone else on the field safe. Master the techniques.
What’s on your pre-game soundtrack?
“Fire It Up” by Thousand Foot Krutch
What do you eat the evening before a game?
Usually something very filling… it can be a long and intense day on the sidelines, you need your energy!
What would you say is your biggest inspiration?
I try to live by two old Chinese proverbs. The first proverb is “The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now”, meaning it’s never to late to accomplish the things you want to accomplish.
This leads perfectly into the second proverb, which is “Man who wait for roast duck to fly into mouth must wait a very, very long time.”
Basically, it’s never too late to accomplish everything you want, but the only way you’re going to do it is by getting out there and doing it!”
